Game Maker - Asteroids Part A

What difficulties did you have? How did you solve them?

I was creating original rocket referencing a clip art I found and I had difficulty with drawing and resizing the rocket to fit in the game. I tried several functions in the editing tabs of rocket sprite and found a way to properly resize it.

Game Maker - Catch the Clown

I didn't have difficulties to create the Clown Game because the tutorial was very descriptive. However I got confused when I was setting the "obj
_clown" to transform. I had to place the action of  "Transform the sprite" in each Events of  "obj_clown"and the problem solved.

Indie Game -The Movie-

1, What are some of the difference between "big games" and "independent games" in terms of style/concepts and how they are made?

The difference between the styles of "big games" and "independent games" is that "big games" usually try to appeal to large amount of audience and created by big companies, although "independent games" reflects on what the creators want and appeal to smaller group of fans.

2, What are some of the difficulties the developers in the film had to overcome?

One of the difficulties the developers had to overcome is that the developers of FEZ needed to get permission from an ex-associate of the company to be able to advertise and present the game. The other difficulty is that focusing on creating games takes incredible amount of time for the developers and they can only have a very small social life. 

3, What do you think you would like about working on an indie (independent) game? What do you think you might not like?

One thing that I like I like about working on and indie game is that I would be able to create my own style of game and tell my message to audience through its story and characters. One part I might not like is that I would have less social life and I won't be able to connect with people and get stressed.

4, What is some advice you could offer to someone who is trying to create their own game, based on what you learned in the film?

Some advice I would offer to someone who is trying to create their own game is that not getting stressful by criticism and improve time management skill to efficiently work on making the game.

5, For the developers, what is the best part of completing the creation of a game?

The best part is that the developers finally complete the game and they would be able to watch how fans play and audience react to the game.

Scratch Level 4 - Create Your Own Game


1, What difficulties did you have with programming this game? How did you fix them? Be specific.

I had difficulties with programming blocks to fall and disappear no matter what order the players hit them with a hammer because the coding was very complicated. I programmed each blocks many times and made sure how individual blocks were moving and disappearing.


2, If you used tutorials or another person's scratch project for reference, tell me what changes did you make to 
    YOUR project?

I referenced Japanese game, Daruma Otoshi on YouTube.
In the Daruma Otoshi game, the payer tries to hit all the blocks not letting its tower of blocks fall down. In my game, the tower won't fall, but a bat bother a player to hit the blocks.


3, What feedback did your beta testers have for you and how did you implement their suggestions?

My game didn't have score system at first, but I was recommended to have the system so the player can enjoy the game more.


4, What would you improve with your game? What would be the next steps with your game if you had more 
    time?

It was very challenging to smoothly program what I wanted my game to work and had difficulties with managing time for finishing the game. I would like to improve the game system to be more exciting and fun to plsy.

Scratch Level 3 - Create Your Own Game

Project Proposal :   To create a game which you stop a moving wooden hammer with a right timing to  hit block properly. If it is a wrong timing, a tower of blocks is gonna fall down which is a game over. More you hit blocks, the timing will be harder.

Story line :   The maximum amount of  blocks is 99 and a cute creature is on top of the tower of blocks. The creature can't get out of the tower and the player needs to save it by hitting blocks without letting it fall down.

Coding Process :   I will program a hammer keep moving up and down and blocks continue appearing from the top of display when a player hit one block. 

Plan for 4 Classes :  
1 - Build a detailed plan for my game
2 - Create and programm moving sprites(blocks and hammer)
3 - Add background and detailed graphics
4 - Add title, setting and other small details, and final checking

Scratch Level 3 - Pong

1, I  had difficulty with programming a Christmas tree appear in a random time and making the ball bounce when it hits the tree. I reviewed the script of the ball when it hits the bear and understood how the bouncing is programmed. I learned 'pick random~to~' block can fit in 'wait~sec' and 'go to ~' blocks from other youtbe video to make the random tree.

2, I added a Christmas tree randomly appear to bother the moving ball so the player has to hit it back again or the opponent will face the ball many times. I thought it would make the game more exciting and fun to play. I programmed the tree hidden first but appear in random time and hide again in random time.
