Scratch Level 2 - Racing Game

A link to the project page of the game is below,
https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/187744788/

1, I had difficulties with programming the car's position. It was confusing to me to set the car go back to the same position and direction when it hits the bombs because I didn't quite understood that the state of the previous game-play will last when you replay it. It affected the position and direction, but I could change it by programming positioning blocks between hide and show blocks and made it seem going back to the place where it exactly was when the game started.

2, I put bombs on the road to make the game a little more challenging. Programming the car hits the bombs and go back to the start position is almost same as programming the car turns when it hits the red zone. When it touches the blue colour of the bomb, an image of "Bomb"show up and the car go back to the start line.

Scratch - Intro

Kodu Pac-Man

My Pac-Man game,

Kudo's programming,

Robot's programming,

1, The maze of my game is almost same to the original game but placement of enemies is different from the original as I didn't put them together in the middle of the game.

2, My game not only has the same green and red apples as the original but also it has an orange apple hidden at the back of the maze and it has the largest point.

3, I had difficulties with programming Kodu launch missile and vanish the Robots. In a programming section of the robot, there was nothing that I can program to let it vanish. Eventually, I only needed to program Kodu to vanish the Robots, although it was quite confusing.

4, I was advised that the game is very difficult and hard to earn enough score to clear, so I programmed the Kodu to be able to launch a missile that can vanish the enemies. Though I had only three enemies at first, the missile made my game very easy. Therefore, I put more enemies to program my game not too easy or difficult.

5, Next time I'd like to put more options that makes a game more entertaining. This time I made exact same maze as the example in the tutorial videos, but I think different type of maze would be more fun.

Video Games : The Movie

1, Video games became successfully popular because of the new form of entertainment which is different from books or movies. Consumers can interact with the video games as they control the character in many way they want and it was something unique and interesting because books and movies can't do. The revolution of video games in 20th century allowed a lot of consumers to have highly developed visuals of story telling and graphics.

2, The reasons why the video games industry crashed in the 1980s is that licensing had not been stringent and poor quality of games flooded in the market. This caused the video games such as "E.T" ended up having terribly little profits, and it led to the demise of the video game industry.

3, I think that video games are a form of art because of the copious expressions of stories and pictures which can interact and connect with the consumers. The process of game-play of each consumers is individually different as they have selections in the games and the ending would change. Also, consumers can play around in the world of the games and discover unique details of the stories and background of characters.

4, I think the next evolution in video games is going to be exceedingly developed the computer graphics of images in the game world and new form of game-play. As the 3D world of games is rapidly developing, Virtual Reality is gradually known as a game devise in general and I think it's going to be the whole new way of game. For example, the headsets which cover your face and controllers allow you to enter and experience the game world as real as possible. One of the problems and challenges which need to be overcome is that the graphical capabilities for the VR is vast amount, although there are only a few and costly computers which are optimized for it. The cost is also a huge problem because you will need sets of tools that are individually high-priced. Moreover, health effect of long term of game play is unknown. These problems need to be solved in order to play safely and respond to consumers' expectations. I think the VR games are innovative and amazing technology which will be the next evolution in games.

Kodu - Intro

                                                              The terrain of my game,

                                                               Kudo's programming,

                                                               Robot's programming,

1, I had difficulties with programming Kudo and how he scores in the game. Though I could program him scores 10 when he gets an apple first, it was confusing that the apples stay at a same position and not disappear when they bump to Kudo. In order to solve the problem that he keeps scoring when he bumps to an apple, I programmed Kudo eats the apples and they disappear.

2, The student who gave me feedback advised me to have more apples because the terrain has high and low, and it lets apples to move quickly. The apples' positions also made the game a little difficult. The student said me to have more variety of controls to make it interesting.

Photoshop Intro

I used 5 images below to make my blog's header in Photoshop. First I resized the photo of a tree to hide the words in the corner of it. Mostly, I used Lasso Tool to cut unnecessary parts of  the images that have animals, a dwarf and a wooden signboard. After cutting them out, I used Blur Tool, Sharpen Tool, Color Balance and Hue/Saturation to make combined picture of them and the tree's photo. Lastly, I put two layers of same words but in different colors on a image of the wooden signboard.

Pixel Art

I created a pixel art in Photoshop referencing a photo of a woman dancing.
